This month our family ran/biked/walked in the Atrial Fibrillation awareness 5K run for Derek's work. Derek and the boys almost ran the whole thing, the girls rode their bikes, and I ran with Faith in the jogging stroller walking/stopping a few times to get her a snack or drink. We enjoyed it! We celebrated two birthdays, and heard fun stories about life with grandma, grandpa, and Jeannie while we were in China.
Derek:
1. Taught a graduate level bioengineering class on bioelectricity for a few weeks.
2. The difficult part time vet tech that's been helping with his research was finally let go. He's hiring new full time one.
3. Went on a scout campout with the boys which included a service project to fix up some winter survival cabins up in the mountains.
4. Has been working lots of late nights recently and if he comes home before bed time he's working on his laptop. There's just too much to get done in 24 hours a day. =)
Aly:
1. Had a random episode of tachycardia. The doctor thinks it was probably brought on my a combination of some sudafed, a steroid, and bending over and standing up quickly--the perfect storm. No problems or future implications--just a one time thing.
2. I'm taking the above mentioned meds after suffering the worst seasonal allergies I can ever remember. I'm so glad to finally get some relief.
3. I'm working on a new workshop at Big Picture Classes. It's been really fun to put together and I look forward to the class opening early next year.
4. I've enjoyed playing volleyball with our ward team. The other night we won both of our double header games with only five players--it was a blast!
James:
1. Organized the kids to earn money doing extra jobs around the house and split the cost of a DVD of the 2nd season of Gilligan's Island. They've watched the 1st season DVD so many times they can quote most of them. It's constantly playing on the basement TV.
2. After auditions is first chair in the french horn section of the symphonic (advanced) band at school.
3. Has grown so much in the last couple of months I can hardly keep pants on him that fit. I think he's almost bigger than me!
4. Is re-writing a huge chunk of his book and making some big changes. He also won 2nd place out of 200 entries in a short story writing contest at school.
Jeffrey:
1. Is teaching himself how to juggle (and doing very well) thanks to his math club teacher who claims that every great mathematician can juggle. His teacher, Mr. Free, is pretty good at it and has given him some good pointers.
2. Auditioned for the district honors band.
3. After auditions is the first chair of the trumpet section of the symphonic band at school. He even beat out a few 9th graders who were in advanced band last year.
4. Came up with an idea for a program to get each member of our family to do personal scripture study each day. The reward is a huge ice cream sundae in an oreo pie crust. Yum!
Ashley:
1. Started playing violin in the 6th grade string orchestra twice a week. She's very excited and very thankful to Tall Grandpa for offering to rent her a lovely brand new violin.
2. Is so helpful and good with Faith. Faith calls her "momma Ashee" sometimes.
3. Has been doing her hair in clips, braids, and messy buns everyday. Some days she'll do Lexie's hair too.
4. Loves to watch Brady Bunch episodes on KBYU. Brings back memories.
Lexie:
1. Celebrated her 9th birthday with a few friends over for a bouncy house party, lunch, cookie cake and presents. We got the bouncy house at half price with an online coupon.
2. Started soccer season and is loving it. The coach usually has her playing offense this season.
3. She also started her Up With Kids musical classes. This year they're performing Rapunzel and she is very excited about that.
4. Attended her friend Savannah's fun Harry Potter birthday party and couldn't stop talking about the fun games and activities. These crazy party mommas here are going to make me look bad! =)
Faith:
1. Is tall enough now to reach several of the cupboards in the pantry, so I often find her snacking on cookies, candy, or crackers at her pleasure.
2. Fell in love with a set of small plastic animals that Grandma brought with her during our trip to China. Grandma and Aunt Ann generously got her some of her own that she loves.
3. Celebrated her 2nd birthday by going to the playland at Chick-Fil-A for dinner, eating mini cupcakes, and opening presents. The older kids were more excited then she was about her birthday celebration. She got several stuffed animals and a handmade jeans purse from the kids; a book and stuffed animal with matching bag from Tall Grandma; a barn with animals, Dora DVD, and plastic dinosaurs from mom and dad, and some money from Little Grandma, Aunt Jeannie, Aunt Ann, and Aunt Jess.
4. Loves to sing parts of "Old MacDonald" loudly, especially in the garage or other places where she can hear her echo. Even in the middle of the sacrament at church when everyone else is being quiet.
